DUTCHMEN PREVAIL AS
HOPEWELL WINS FIRST TITLE
John Alexander's Hopewell Dutchmen have
won their first league title, besting the
National League's Ohio Buckeyes 4 games to 2 in the
1981 World Series!
RECORDS FALL, DAWSON,
CARLTON HAVING
RECORD-SETTING SEASONS
Catskill's Andre Dawson and Hopewell's
Steve Carlton are shattering some of the NCABL's most
honored records. Dawson has surpassed Frank Howard's 1968
record of 57 HR and is threatening Bobby Bonds' 1977 mark of
160 RBI. With 20 games to go, Dawson has cranked 63
HR and 153 RBI. Steve Carlton has tied the NCABL mark
of 12 shutouts set by Mike Cuellar in 1971 and Randy Jones
in 1976. Included is three no-hitters, one a perfect game.
Carlton's ERA is 1.07, which would break Bob Gibson's 1968
mark of 1.22. Carlton is expected to make 5 or 6 more starts
in his team's final 25 games.
CARLTON, DAWSON STAR AS
AL BLANKS NL, 3-0
Steve Carlton fired 3 innings of shutout
ball and Andre Dawson cranked a 2-run HR in front of his
hometown fans to give the AL a 3-0 victory in the 1981
All Star Game. View the boxscore and scoresheet

NCABL'S
15TH YEAR WELL UNDERWAY
Steve Carlton has thrown the NCABL's
second perfect game as he blanked Catskill 2-0 on May 27 of
the NCABL calandar.
NCABL ADOPTS NEW GAME
After 14 years of play using APBA's
DOS and BBW products, the NCABL is changing game
formats with a move to the Action! PC Baseball
Game by Dave
Koch Sports.
SOUTH SHORE REIGNS AGAIN
The South Shore Navigators
have successfully defended their crown with a 4 games to 3
decision over the Hopewell Dutchmen. They join the 1971-1972
Ridgewood Redlegs and the 1973-1974 Mechanicsburg Flash as
the league's only back-to-back champs. The World Series
marks the first time the two expansion teams battled for the
title, with John Alexander's Hopewell team joining the NCABL
in 1970, and Tom Meade's Navigators joining in 1972. To see

Schmidt's 2-run double, and Dwayne Murphy's game-icing

NEARING THE ALL STAR BREAK
National League - South Shore finally
took a tumble, dropping 3 of 5 to Flatbush, but they still
hold the NCABL's best mark at 60-21 (.741), 13 games up on
Midwest. Ohio's lead in the East has grown to 8 games as the
Buckeyes are 9-1 over their last 10 games. Midwest and
Jersey hold the wild card spots, but Satellite Beach is just
3 games behind the Generals.
American League - Hopewell and Winchester
hold leads of 7 and 5 games, with Berwyn and Silver Creek
holding the wild cards. Flatbush has climbed to .500, and is
1 1/2 behind the Pioneers. Brooklyn Center is a 1/2 game
under .500, 2 out of the wild card, and Piedmont is a game
under, 2 1/2 out.
Keith Hernandez is hitting .396 to lead
the NL. AL leader Paul Molitor is hitting .386. Reggie
Jackson continues to be a force, leading the NL in HR and
RBI with 31 and 87 respectively. Dale Murphy (23) and Gorman
Thomas (70) are the AL leaders. Omar Moreno has 10 triples
1/2 way through the season, with Jack Clark (?) and John
Castino with 9. Steve Carlton is 17-5 at the break, and on
pace to set a new mark for wins. Don Sutton, Bob Welch, Mike
Norris, and Scott McGregor each have 12 wins. Don Sutton's
ERA is 0.91, which makes you wonder how he lost 2 games. He
has 7 shutouts, which is amazing for this era. Carlton leads
the AL at 1.71.
1980 - A THIRD OF THE SEASON
IN THE BOOKS
South Shore (33-12) and
Hopewell (31-14) are off to blazing starts, with Winchester
leading in the AL West, and Jersey, Ohio, and Satellite
Beach having a 3-team scramble in the NL East. Paul
Molitior (.383) and Jim Rice (.376) are the leading hitters,
while a man named Reggie has belted 18 HR and driven in 47
runs to top those categories. Steve Carlton has opened at
10-2, while Don Sutton is a perfect 8-0.
