Another Day, Another Man

The storyline: A wholesome women shares an apartment with a prostitute in New York City. The wholesome woman is secretly married, but doesn't live with her husband. The husband finally raises enough cash to allow the couple to move into an apartment together and for her to quit her job. No sooner do they move in together when the husband falls ill and is confined to bed. So, now the couple are in a bind. The husband can't work. The wife has quit her job. They can't afford a nurse to look after the husband during the day if the wife takes a normal job. Solution: The wholesome wife hooks up with her ex-roommate's boyfriend/pimp and becomes a prostitute. She is now able to care for her husband during the day and earn $200 a week by hooking in the evenings. But, hooking has some drawbacks, and one of them is that both she and her former roommate occasionally get slapped around by the Johns. The husband is supposed to be so sick that he'll be laid up for months. However, the doctor visits one evening while the wife is out hooking, and pronounces a miraculous recovery. The man is overjoyed and wants to go tell his wife. He finds an address scribbled on a piece of paper and goes to the address. He is shocked to find his wife in the arms of another man. He does not make his presence known. Instead, he goes back to the apartment and kills himself.
