Assault Of The Party Nerds

This is a low budget T & A comedy with both Michelle Bauer and Linnea Quigley. They're upper class sorority girls and they both have boyfriends in the jock fraternity on campus. These guys are completely in love with themselves. Real jerks. But they fit right into the girl's plans for marriage and children. There is also a nerd fraternity on campus with all seniors. Since the fraternity is likely to fold, they figure they'll go out with a bang. They trick the national headquarters of their fraternity into sending them a bunch of money and they advertise that they are going to have a huge party. In what is the funniest scene in the movie, Michelle and Linnea make an unexpected visit to the jock fraternity and find their two boyfriends and another frat member in a three-way homosexual love tryst, complete with handcuffs. They are appalled by this and break up with them. Since they're free that weekend, they go to the nerd's party and find that they like honest, sincere guys who aren't in love with themselves, so they get intimate with the nerds after the party is over. The party is such a hit, that they recruit tons of guys to join the fraternity, thus continuing on the fraternity and leaving a great legacy, and even losing their virginity, all at the same time. I love happy endings. And of course, Michelle and Linnea both get naked (that's why they're hired for these movies).

This movie has some funny moments, but at times is pretty dull. It's worth watching to check out Michelle and Linnea. Considering that this movie stars and is directed by Richard Gabai and has the same cast as the pretty funny Virgin High, I expected it to be better. Apparently, in addition to being a young writer, director and actor, Richard is/was also the lead singer and guitar player in a band called The Checks. The Checks music is playing through a lot of the movie, and it's some excellent power pop. I'd buy a CD by this band. Ellen Cabot, who is really David DeCoteau executively produced this movie. I'll rate it a 3.

Postscript: After writing this review, I was contacted by Richard Gabai, who offered to send me a free copy of a CD by The Checks. This was ultra-cool, because I had been searching for such a thing to no avail. Thanks, Richard! What a great CD! It's pure power pop. Even though the songs were recorded in the early 90s, they sound like they came straight out of the late 70s, early 80s. Reference points would be The Beat, The Rubinoos, The Kings, with a dash of The Kingbees thrown in occasionally. Some British Invasion influence seeps in occasionally. You can hear a The Dave Clark Five influence. The harmonies are heavenly, ala The Posies. Nothing cheesy, just classic pure pop, with great classic guitar sounds. I fully endorse The Checks music. If you're a power pop fan, you will love it. Below you will find information on how to get a copy of this great music. Tell Richard that Mike Hoover sent you.
