Rafting on the Lower New River

This trip was attended in the spring of 2000.  The lower New River is located in Summersville area of south central West Virginia.  The longest single arch bridge exists here where one Saturday in October, the bridge is closed and used for recreational purposes: bungie jumping, base jumping, hang gliding, etc.

I know I look sad but it was cold and rainy and I wasn't allowed to wear my own helmet! What a cry baby!
There's the New River Arch Bridge!  It doesn't look very big from this picture but it is around 862 feet above the water.

This trip included four people: Sue Thurman, Chad Grim, Lesley Rexroth and me.

This is the company we rafted with for this trip.  The prices were very good and we selected a date when very few others went.  (I try to do this so we get a better run from the guides.)  They even provided a few drafts after we returned.

After we changed out of our wet clothes, we got some brewski provided by the rafting company.  How nice of them to share with us.
So here we are back at the Country Road cabin with Chad and Lesley enjoying the swing on the front porch of the "Jackson".

This is the front porch.  This is a nice place and will likely be our home on some future trips too.
Shhhhh!  There was room and height to teach Sue how to rappell from inside the cabin.  It was dark outside at this time so it was our only choice for location.
