Quarry Hill Cave

This cave located in Shippensburg area, is protected by a locked gate.  I am told that much of the cave passage was dug out by the property owner.  There is a small portion of this cave which can be traversed without being small or squeezing through very tight passages.  The rest of the cave is mostly horizontal tight passage.

This was my first Grotto caving expedition.  After years of being a member, I finally got to go with other members to a cave.
The right side of the cave is fairly open and filled with stalactites.  The wide ribbon in the center top of this photo is featured in the photo below.
Here is a close up of the large ribbon in the photo above.  You can imagine how many years it took to collect this much mineral to create such a spectacle.

 

Notice the carbide lamp being held up behind the ribbon to back light it.
