Sinks of Gandy Cave in West Virginia

The third cave for Alan Horn and I on the second to last day of OTR, 2002 was Sinks of Gandy.  The Randy Gandy run had finished not too long before we got there as we came across several people in the field heading back to their vehicles, none of which were fully dressed but all of which were covered in towels or other garments to protect from the dropping temperatures of the night time.

There are few areas of this cave where you can traverse without being in the water and few formations to see.  Those which are visible are usually at a distance or due to the high humidity, photography is hindered.  I therefore only acquired a few good shots, most of which were of creek fauna.

This is the only dry entrance to the cave and only allows visitors to delay getting soaked.

Alan takes his helmet off for a moment to show how unnecessary it is and how clean he remains.  It is hard to get dirty in this cave but if you do manage to find one of the non-wet side passages, you have to get back into the water anyway and end up clean buy the time you get out.

This crayfish was probably not so happy to avoid all the traffic which comes through here during OTR.
