Stillhouse Cave, Randolph County, WVThis is a small cave compared to many in West Virginia. There are plenty or things to see though and almost everywhere you go, a speleothem is visible. Although the map and other visitors tell me that a through trip is possible here, it was just about dark when we got to the cave and got dark outside by the time we exited. The visit to this cave was probably 30 minutes if that. Most of the time was consumed by photography. We did not do a through trip nor was it obvious to us where the other entrance was or Alan and I would probably have gone that way just so that I don't have to go back and find it. The cave is certainly worth another visit.... it's just that there are so many caves around that area that to not explore all of a small cave so that other larger caves can be explored on future days is silly. Alan Horn and I had rushed over to Stillhouse Cave on September 1st, 2002, after a stinky visit to Nelson Cave only a few miles away. That trip took much longer than anticipated due to the topographical map leading us in the wrong direction. Here are some of the spectacles found in this cave:
