The Rainbow Bridge

There is a bridge connecting Heaven and Earth. It is called the Rainbow Bridge because of its many colors. Just this side of the Rainbow Bridge there is a land of meadows, hills and valleys with lush green grass.

When a beloved pet dies, the pet goes to this place. There is always food and water and warm spring weather. The old and frail animals are young again. Those who are maimed are made whole again. They play all day with each other.

There is only one thing missing. They are not with the special person who loved them on Earth. So, each day they run and play until the day comes when one suddenly stops playing and looks up! The nose twitches! The ears are up! The eyes are staring! And this one suddenly runs from the group!

You have been seen, and when you and your special friend meet, you take him or her in your arms and embrace. Your face is kissed again and again and again, and you look once more into the eyes of your trusting pet.

Then you cross the Rainbow Bridge together, never again to be separated.

We are truly sorry to hear about your pet. He will be waiting for you at the Rainbow Bridge.

RAINBOW BRIDGE. SEQUEL TO ORIGINAL.

Oh, when we get to Heaven We hope that we will find The Souls that once we loved, Who left us all behind. Some left us at the right time, They left this world in peace. Others left too sudden, Without the chance to say Goodbye. They were gone before we had the chance to even cry.

There's a special place for grownups, A special place for kids; Me I'll be on the other side, The side called Rainbow Bridge. Across the dark green meadow, A top the hills I'll run,. Where the colors from the Rainbow, Glitter from the sun.

And there I'll find my sweetheart running fast toward me. In my arms where he belongs FOR ALL ETERNITY.

Into the Mist

by Tina Vinet, Cambridge, Massachusetts

We sat drowsily by the fire in my small apartment. The cold winter of 1993 had attacked my dog, Bones, with a vengeance; his 17-year-old body was stressed to its limits. Now he lay by my chair and breathed heavily, watching me with his gentle, sleepy eyes. I closed mine to rest and drifted into a dream...

Bones and I stood together, a great misty mountain before us. I gave him the command to climb with me. On the way up, he frolicked in a sea of grass and wildflowers.

I scratched his gray muzzle and said, "Look, Bones, we're almost there!" He answered me with a gruff bark and wagged his tail with pleasure.

As we neared the peak of the mountain, I saw an angel waiting behind an elaborate golden fence. The massive gate swung open and a cloud floated toward us. From the cloud four angels emerged. Slowly closing their wings, they landed next to Bones and then carefully lifted him from the ground.

The angels carried him through the gate and disappeared in the mist, where all the colors of the rainbow were refracted.

I could hear the joyful sounds of children laughing and dogs barking. I knew they were all welcoming the new arrival.

One of the angels reappeared and closed the golden gate. When she dipped her wing to me, a shaft of light instantly illuminated the mountainside.

"Ride the light home," someone whispered, and I was gently lifted onto the glowing white slide.

One the way down, I saw hundreds of stars shooting across the sapphire sky. Other lights flickered in the heavens. I felt dizzy...

Quite chilled I opened my eyes. The fire was low and shadows filled the room. I looked at Bones. His front legs were crossed. His eyes partly closed. He had stopped breathing. For him the winter was over.

The Broken Chain

We little knew that morning that God was going to call your name,
In life we loved you dearly, in death we do the same.
It broke our hearts to lose you, you did not go alone.
For part of us went with you, the day God called you home.
You left us peaceful memories, your love is still our guide,
And though we cannot see you, you are always at our side.
Our family chain is broken, and nothing seems the same,
But as God calls us one by one, the chain will link again.
